DIY Nourishing Hair Oils

Our hair becomes dry and damaged due to sun exposure, dyeing, chemicals in shampoos and heat styling tools. Just like conditioning, oiling is also important to provide nourishment and moisture to your hair. We all have tried expensive conditioners, treatments and such products but they rarely deliver what they claim. Using oils for massaging scalp increase blood circulation and stimulate hair follicles.

Here are some beneficial hair oils and how to use them :

Olive Oil

The health benefits of olive oil are known for centuries. It is gaining popularity as a beauty product. It is a perfect solution for all your hair issues that include dry, brittle, damaged hair and also hair loss. Use it as a hair treatment that doesn’t cost a fortune.

It is best to warm olive oil for deep penetration into hair cuticles. Take two tbsp of olive oil and slightly warm it. Gently massage it into your scalp. Don’t rub the roots because it can cause breakage. Wrap your hair in a warm towel and leave it on for 30 minutes. Use a mild shampoo to wash your hair.

Castor Oil

Castor oil is consumed for many benefits including hair growth. Castor oil is very moisturizing and protects the hair. It seals the cuticles which is the outermost layer of hair fiber making your hair healthy and improves growth. Therapeutic castor oil is used for cosmetics, skin and hair. It is also free from chemical additives.

Look out for quality castor oils which should be free from artificial scents. You can make an excellent treatment for dry, flaky and itchy scalp using castor oil. It can also be mixed with other oils such as jojoba oil or almond oil for deep conditioning. Gently massage the oil into your scalp. Cover your hair with a shower cap or wrap a warm towel to seal the moisture into the hair. Shampoo after 20 minutes.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is a wonderful treatment for dry and damaged hair. It is rich in vitamin E and essential minerals. It is also a rich source of proteins therefore stimulates hair growth. Massage almond oil on your scalp to stimulate blood flow which brings oxygen to hair follicle which in turn promotes growth.

Almond oil brings shine to dull and limp hair. Regular use of almond oil can provide natural deep conditioning.

Coconut Oil

It is rich in proteins, antioxidants, vitamin E and anti microbial agents. Use coconut oil to make your scalp healthy and provide your hair with essential nutrients to make it soft, silky and shiny. Since it is not so greasy like other oils, it absorbs easily into the hair. One of the main cause of dandruff and unhealthy scalp is microbial action. Coconut oil contains Lauric acid which is an anti microbial agent. Regular use of coconut oil prevents dandruff from coming back.

Organic coconut oil is solid at low temperature. Take a small amount in your palm and rub both your hands to warm it. It will soften and smooth easily. Apply it on your scalp and massage gently. Also, use it on the length for making it shiny and soft. Massage for a few minutes and leave it on for an hour. You can cover your hair with a shower cap if your want. Shampoo your hair like you do normally.
