3 Easy Homemade Protein Treatments For Dry and Damaged Hair

Advertisements

Your hair is made up of protein. Everyday styling and environmental pollution can strip moisture out of your hair. The best way to put moisture and shine back  to your hair is  by getting a protein treatment. Protein smooths the cuticle of the hair, creating smoother strands and stronger hair. Protein treatments are expensive at salons. Instead of buying those pricey treatments you can make your own easily at home. Homemade protein treatments are all natural and with frequent use you get a long lasting result.

Here are the 3 easy homemade protein treatments for dry and damaged hair :

Egg Mask :

Egg is the best source of protein for your hair. The yolk is rich in fat and protein which is extremely moisturizing. The white is full of bacteria eating enzymes which cleanses your hair and scalp. Use a full egg for normal to dry hair. For oily hair and scalp, use only whites. Egg alone or mixed with more protein rich ingredients can be applied to the hair. This treatment can be used every two weeks or monthly. Take one egg or two depending on the length and thickness of your hair. Beat until frothy and apply it your hair and scalp. Make sure all your hair is properly covered with egg. Cover with a shower cap and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water and shampoo. If you find the smell of egg unpleasant, add a few drops of lemon juice.

Yogurt :

Dairy products like cream and yogurt contain Lactic acid which gently cleanses while fat moisturizes. Mix egg and yogurt for a deep conditioning protein treatment.

Simply, massage 3 tbsp sour cream or yogurt into your hair. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Rinse and shampoo hair. You can apply this treatment every week.

Mayonnaise and avocado:

Mayonnaise is made of oil and egg so it’s very moisturizing for your hair. The high-fat content of avocados makes hair less dry and prone to breakage. Mix two tbsp mayonnaise and half mashed avocado in a bowl until creamy. Apply this homemade conditioner through your hair concentrating on the ends. For even distribution, use a wide tooth comb.

Thank you for the advice, I also use another good product to keep my hair healthy, it’s pro naturals moroccan argan oil which is really good , helps to restore the hair and leaves it soft, shiny and healthy. :)

I love using home remedies for my hair, it’s super curly and frizzy. I also tend to splurge on good quality products like pro naturals moroccan argan oil hair mask, at least I know they work :)

My hair is falling off quite a lot for a past four months, there is not a lot of hair left on my head, and it is still not stopping to constantly fall. I would really appreciate it if you can come up with a solution, so my hair will no longer fall off. Thank you

Asha, this could be more about your diet, than a treatment for your hair. Hair is made up of protein and we need plenty of lean healthy protein in our diet for things like skin, hair and nails to be healthy.

Thanks for the reply Justine, I started to eat Iron Tablets, and a lot of Green vegetables and fruits. If you can recommend anything I am missing on, such as a tablet or a vitamin which is vital, please let me know. Thanks :)

          Hi Asha

I have some experience myself with hair loss.
It would be good to do a complete blood test.
Hair loss can be related to hormonal imbalances, dieting, low iron, thyroid issues. Stress can also play a huge role.
It is usually internal and you must try to find out what is wrong.
Taking vitamin B complex can help. Also when hair is falling out a lot, it is best not to dye, cut it shorter, use a very mild non chemical shampoo.
It would be wise to see a dermatologist for such issues.
          Good luck.

I had the same problem. I have a vitamin deficiency of vitamin D3. I take 10,000 units of d3 in oil form a day. If I’m in the sun, I take 5,000 units. You also have to take vitamin C to metabolize the D3. I just put my oil in a glass of orange juice. You can also take Biotin 10,000 a day sublingual instead of D3. I usually alternate products. D3 one month, Biotin the next month. Hope this helps.

I have the same hair type. I bought virgin coconut oil, combed it generously through my hair from root to tip, & placed under a shower cap. I heated my scalp w/ a blow dryer for 10 mins then wrapped a towel over it & let sit for 20-30 mins. Then I removed the towel & shower cap & shampooed & conditioned my hair as usual (I use a coconut hibiscus shampoo from the “ethnic” section @ Walgreen’s & Loreal sulfate free intense repairing/restorative conditioner w/ camellia flower.) My hair has never felt so soft or been so shiny! I do this at least once every-other week. Good luck!

Hello, I have tried the egg and will now try the avocado. We do eat a lot avocado. I never had long hair even when I was a little girl.. Over the last several years during and after the birth of my children my hair has become more challenging and breaking. I have seen the doctors before, have various treatment from them.. today I am still struggling with the same hair issues. I am currently going natural and trying to see if I can get some healthly hair. It is doing much better, however, the front of my hair has several balding spots and I am searching for ways to get those section fill out with hair.. I would love any suggestions.

hy am maryam ,,my haris is too much dry and rought,,am try all shmpoo and am also provide the moisture to my hairs with oil bt its still dry and rought tell me solution plz kindly

    • Aaliyah at 1:25 am

Hello Maryam. Try to shampoo 1 day, and do not shampoo the other day, like this. Use the treatments above, and try coconut oil the night before, then wash it out with just water the next day. :)

I have to say that a lot of you are using shampoo in your hair which is part of the problem. Shampoo contains harmful sulfates that strip the hair of its natural moisture. How often you wash also determines your hair is dry. I don’t use shampoo in my hair at all. I cowash, which is using just conditioner to cleanse my hair. My hair has been much healthier since I began doing this.

    • Anna at 2:11 pm

Hi tasha what you said really woke me up because I notice my hair is cutting off espcially in front because it doesnt have the same length. so please what I wanna know is if I try let says mayonnaise , egg , honey and olive oil. do I need to wash the hair with just water first before applying the treatment ?
Then after its covered so I will just need to rinse the treatment with water and my main problem is will my hair be clean after that ?
without a shampoo? is true because they got lots of sulphate these shampoo allover the supermarkets
      Thanks…..

    @Asha,
I have also been having alot of hair loss lately. One of the first things you need to do is think about if it gradually started, or just came on all at once. If gradually, like over a long period of time (especially with no cuts or trims & if you aren’t as gentle with it as you should be,) it could be something as simple as split ends, or the way you care for/style. But if it has came on more of a sudden, my advice is to see a dr. Every person is different, & in My Own personal experience only, some of my hair loss was because of my diet, stress & the way I took care of it.

Every person is different, & in My Own personal experience only, some of my hair loss was because of my diet, stress & the way I took care of it. But a lot of it also had to do with my health, which happened to be my thyroids & horomones. Even without symptoms, some things can be the cause. Not trying to scare you.. If the dr. isn’t a first option, try changing shampoos, all natural with No chemicals. (You can also make your own products, from shampoo to homemade hairspray. The recipes are easy to find & make-just google it.) Also try changing the way you brush & style. Less sometimes works better. Ask a pharmacist about vitamins. One thing I found online that is on many sites, is natural remedies, most using coconut oil. One says to apply coconut oil to the scalp and use as a regrowth treatment. Medical advice is Always the best & I have found that sometimes a pharmacist’s advice happened to be closer to right than some doctors. I hope you find something that works. And good luck.

Check with your doctor as you could be enemic and will need à blood test to find out your levels as this can cause you to lose your hair.

For dry hairs and scalp issues do use shampoo but just mild it before applying on scalp and hairs. Each and every shampoo and conditioner contains bad chemicals because its a billion dollar business industry if they will provide a chemical free hair products then no one have any issues and we peoples stop buying the hairfall , antidandruff and all that bullshit from our superstores . If you are really dissappointed or have any serious issues with hairs then use homemade recipes to bring the life back to your hairs .

I got my hair permed a year ago and for a few months after the curls were awesome. But I did not realize the damage it would inflict on my thin but silky long hair. I used to get a lot of people commenting on my hair thats it so dry and damaged and every parlour I went to all the stylist had one thimg to say…that I have very dry hair. Then after much research I camr across this home made remedy for dry hair. It has improved my dry hair a great deal. Believe me this is the most awesome hair treatment I have used for my hair. All I do is crack an egg, 3 or4 tablespoons of yogurt depending on the length of your hair and a little bit of any hair oil. ..I would prefer almond or olive or castor oil or even baby oil( castor oil promotes growth of nee hair). Along with this add some fenugreek seeds that have been soaked overnight in water. Blend all of these and apply to your hair covering the entire scalp to the tips. If the ends need more attention then start from ends to ensure all ends are entirely covered. Cover this with a plastic and leave for an hour. Wash off with cold water and theres no need for conditioner. This remedy itself is all in all a conditioner for dry hair.

It works for me. It has made a lot of difference to mydull dry hair. Hope it works for you guys too. Anyone who tries this do let me know of the results.
