How to Care For Oily Skin – 7 tips

Oily skin is the most common skin type. It has a shiny appearance, more bacteria growth, and blocked pores when mixed with sebum. Skin oiliness is caused by sebaceous glands which are attached to hair follicles within the skin. Oiliness is affected by the way in which sebaceous glands work. The more sebum is produced, it blocks the follicle resulting in blackheads and pimples. Proper care of oily skin will help reduce blackheads and pimples.

Here are 7 easy tips about how to care for oily skin:

1

Cleansing your skin

It is very important to cleanse oily skin at least twice a day with a mild soap or facial wash that does not disturb the natural pH level of your skin. Cleansing removes oil and dirt that can clog pores. Harsh cleansers can dry out natural moisture and increase oil production where the oil glands work overtime to compensate the oil loss. Use warm water as it help dissolve oil.

2

Exfoliate

Exfoliation removes the dead skin and impurities that clog pores. Pour 1 tbsp of baking soda into your hand, and mix it with a small amount of water. Spread the baking soda paste onto your skin, and massage it for 2 minutes. Rinse the skin well with water.

3

Tone

Use a toner to close the pores. The heat of a summer day and hot water used in washing your skin open up the pores wider allowing more oil to flow out. Use oil controlling toners. Avoid toners that contain alcohol as it dissolve oil and stimulate oil production.

4

Avoid heavy moisturizers

Oily skin does need moisture but heavy moisturising creams and sunscreens should not be used which can increase oil production and block pores. Look for moisturizers that are specially formulated for oily skin. Always use alcohol-free moisturizers and non-comedogenic products as they are oil-free and won’t clog pores.

5

Use Clay Mask on skin

Clay masks reduce oil. Blend together 1 tsp green clay powder and 1 tsp raw honey. Apply the mixture to your face, avoiding the eye area. Leave it on for fifteen minutes, then rinse well with lukewarm water. Do this at least twice a week.

6

Eat healthy and stay hydrated

Drink lots of water to stay hydrated and remove toxins from the body. Eating junk food or foods that are high in fats or sugars can actually make the skin look uneven. Eating fruits and veggies daily as well as large amounts of water can help wash away those impurities and keep the skin clean. Water is also great to give the skin a natural glow.

7

Relaxing your skin

Stress can result in skin problems. It stimulates oil on your face and cause breakouts and blackheads. If you have too much to worry about, just try to take at least 10 to 15 minutes of your day and relax in a hot bath to give your body and skin time to relax. You wouldn’t believe how much it helps your skin.
