How to Clean Makeup Brushes

Makeup brushes are an essential item in your makeup bag. Good quality makeup brushes are expensive and with proper care, they can last for a very long time. Dirty makeup brushes affect the application of product properly. Also, the bacteria can cause your skin to break out or react in a way.

Every time you use them, make sure to wipe the product with a cloth or tissue. Don’t rub it on the bristles too hard. It is recommended to clean makeup brushes once a week if you use them every day. Otherwise, you can clean them every time you feel there is product build up in the brushes.

Now, there are mainly two types of material that the brushes are made of. Natural and synthetic hair brushes. Synthetic brushes require cleaning with a brush cleaner or mild shampoo. Natural hair brushes are just like our hair, they cannot withstand the chemicals of the cleaner or shampoo and with time they become dry and brittle.

To start, you’ll need:

Baby shampoo or any mild shampoo/foam cleanser

A clean towel

and of course Makeup brushes

Wet the brush under warm running water. Hold the brush vertically with the tip of the brush downwards. Let all the bristles soak completely. Take a small amount of shampoo and work it into the brush. Gently wash the brush.

Rinse the shampoo and keep the brush in the same position.

Squeeze off excess water with the help of a towel. Shake the brush and all its bristles will come to their original place.

Let it air dry completely. Store them in a dry, covered place and protect from dust.
