Did you know that you can naturally highlight your hair at home? You can do this using lemon juice. Lemon juice is not only good for hair and skin but also to lighten hair colour. The results from this technique depends on your natural colour. If you have really dark hair then it might not be very visible after first application. The fun part is that the result is always a surprise for you. You never really know what colour to expect.

how to highlight hair using lemon juice

First you need to decide which part of hair you want to highlight. Whether you want to do all over your hair or some sections. Amount of lemon juice  depends on how much hair you want to lighten. Squeeze the lemons in a bowl then transfer it into a clean spray bottle for easy application. Spray it evenly on all you hair if you want to have a natural light shade on all your hair or take some sections, hold them up and then spray lemon juice. This will create highlights on some of the top sections of your hair.

After you have sprayed lemon juice on your hair, you’ve to go out in the sun for the UV rays to work with lemon juice. The Citric acid in lemon juice opens up your hair cuticles and with the combination of UV rays (from the sun) and oxygen starts the bleaching process. Wait for 30 – 60 minutes under the sun.

After sun exposure, take a shower and use a good conditioner. Direct sun exposure might dry out your hair that’s why it is recommended to use a deep conditioner. If you don’t receive required result the first time, do this again but not more than 2-3 times a week.

Best of luck and let us know how this worked for you :)

      daisha,
I do not believe it will work as well and it might just damage your hair even more, but you could try it.(: xx

you could use a little bit of olive oil to save your hair from losing its natural oils :)

will this work on someone with natural dark ,dark brown hair (almost black) and if so how long do you have to wait for results if you use it twice a week? Also can you use a blow dryer instead of sun light?? Thanks!

      rose,
you cannot use a blow dryer, it must be the sun because it is not the heat that makes it work, it is the UV rays..and obviously, a blow dryer does not contain those. xx
